Physical activity and cancer prevention

Physical activity is any form of movement using muscles. Until the middle of the 20th century most people had fairly active lifestyles. People were necessarily engaged in regular, moderate and at least occasional vigorous, physical activity. Our working life required a lot of physical activity, as did housework.

In the second half of the 20th century, this began to change. With urbanisation and industrialisation, general levels of physical activity have declined.

Machines now do most of the work previously done by hand; driving and using public transport have largely replaced walking and cycling.

While people in higher income countries and in urban settings in most countries may engage in some active forms of recreation, they remain largely inactive, and many spend much time in sedentary recreation, such as watching television and using home computers. In general, lifestyles have become too sedentary.

The WCRF expert panel reviewed available evidence and concluded that:

·Since the early 1990s, the evidence that physical activity can protect against cancer and obesity has continued to grow.

·The expert report found convincing evidence that physical activity protects against bowel/colon cancer. It probably also protects against breast cancer (in postmenopausal women) and endometrial (womb) cancer.

·Studies show that regular activity can help to keep our hormone levels healthy, which is important as having high levels of some hormones can increase our cancer risk.

·Studies show that regular activity can help to keep our hormone levels healthy, which is important as having high levels of some hormones can increase our cancer risk.

·Physical activity may also strengthen our immune system, help keep our digestive system healthy and allow us to consume more food €“ and more cancer-protective nutrients €“ without gaining weight.

The expert panel is impressed by the overall consistency of the evidence that suggests or shows that regular, sustained physical activity protects against cancers of some sites.

To prevent these cancers, the overall evidence supports the message that all types and degrees of physical activity are or may be protective, excluding extreme levels of activity.

It also means that the more physically active people are, the better. It should be noted however that there is limited evidence for any specific type or degree of physical activity.

The expert panel further agrees that the evidence can equally be interpreted as showing that sedentary ways of life increase or may increase the risk of these cancers.

WCRF recommendations

The recommendation of WCRF is therefore to be physically active as part of everyday life.

The public health goals, which are for populations and are therefore principally for health professionals are:

·The proportion of the population that is sedentary to be halved every 10 years.

·Average physical activity levels (PALs) to be above 1.6. PAL is a way of representing the average intensity of daily physical activity.

The personal recommendations, meant for people, as communities, families, and individuals are:

·Be moderately physically active €“ equivalent to brisk walking for at least 30 minutes every day.

·As fitness improves, aim for 60 minutes or more of moderate, or for 30 minutes or more of vigorous, physical activity every day.

·Limit sedentary habits such as watching television.

It is of the utmost value to learn how to concentrate. To make the greatest success of anything you must be able to concentrate your entire thought upon the idea you are working on.
The person that is able to concentrate utilizes all constructive thoughts and shuts out all destructive ones. The greatest man would accomplish nothing if he lacked concentration.
This all about what i had read in one of the article by Chan,one of the sucessful man in the Asia

Electric car?? The article from the internet that i had read was about the electric car.
Increasing use of electrical power to drive automobile subsystems, which historically have been driven by a combination of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical power transfer systems, is seen as a dominant trend in advanced automotive power systems. This is the concept of More Electric Cars.
Advancements in the areas of power electronics, fault tolerant electrical power distribution systems, electric drives, control electronics, and microprocessors are already providing the impetus to improve the performance of automobile electrical systems and their reliability. As a result, the MEC concept is seen as the direction of automotive power system technology. This paper briefly discusses the conventional automotive power systems, their disadvantages, scope for improvement, future electric loads, and advanced distribution system architectures. Finally, it concludes with a brief outline of the advancement to be made in the future

Heng shared about how to prevent cancer and i want to share on how to have the treatment when suffer with cancer.
There have the Issels Treatment.It is a comprehensive immunotherapy for cancer that has received international recognition for its complete long-term remissions of advanced cancer. It originated in Germany and was developed by Josef M. Issels M.D. His concept of integrating into the treatment plan not only the cancer tumors and cells, but also with the same importance, the complex defense, regulatory, and repair mechanisms of the cancer-afflicted person as a whole, was revolutionary and met with opposition from certain chapters of the medical establishment.

Raya joy for orphans was published on the star newspaper on Sunday October 19, 2008. Students and lecturers of the Legend International College of Hospitality and Tourism recently treated 33 orphans to a buka puasa buffet at the college’s premises in Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur. The children, from Asrama Baitul Ummah in Setapak, KL, ranged from five to 14 years of age.The sumptuous meal was specially prepared by 25 first- and second-year students pursuing the college’s Diploma in Culinary Arts and Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management programmes. Among the delicacies served were curry chicken, salad, Black Forest cake and chocolate brownies. Duit raya was also given away to the orphans.

Celebrating for the orphans is very important as they are lack of care and loves. We as the public should do as much as we could in order to give them a warm big family and let them feel the love from us. Spent more time visiting the orphans is always an encouraged move for all of us. Do think of these orphans and also the unfortunate.They need help and they need us to go forward in their daily life.

here i want to share with all of you one of the factor of stress...
That factor is television..It is hard to believe but television is one of the greatest kill joys that have even been invented. Not mentioning the ability to kill social interaction, what you see in television is a great source of stress. Besides some excellent trash that is shown in an infinite number of channels, think commercials. The basic premise of good advertising is that it needs to create a need by instilling pain, fear or other negative emotions. Next time you watch commercials, pay attention to what kind of negative emotion they are making you feel, and what kind of solution for this problem that they just created for you, they are proposing. You will see what I mean. Now, if you must, watch one sitcom that is really funny. Turn off the TV after that

i have read an article in the newspaper which its about Shah Rukh Khan which will get the title of Datuk from Yang Di Pertua of Malacca Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, the Malacca Government,
in my opinion, this is not suitable because he simply shot a scene in Malacca for one of the many movies he acts or produces in a year. Khan also joined a series of movie producers/actors like Sean Connery, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jackie Chan who included Malaysian cities and towns as part of their movie backdrops, just to add some sparkling exotic locale to their otherwise drab location narrative.
Now, we know that people more interest in ENTERTAINMENT than EDUCATION.. why it's happen??? why a person from other country get "DATUK"???

5 WAYS TO MAKE WEIGHT LOSS EASIER...

Don't we all long for a lifestyle that makes weight loss easy? I don't think the effort is ever easy, but it can be made easier by following a few easy concepts.
We all need as much help as we can get, when it comes to making weight loss more manageable. Here are 5 tips for making weight loss easier:

1. Focus on what you CAN eat, instead of what you need to limit.
- Avoid deprivation by choosing lots of high fiber/high water foods - like fruits and veggies - that help you stay fuller longer. Foods with abundant fiber and water give you more volume, without adding extra calories.

2. Get enough sleep
- When you're sleep deprived, you tend to eat more, to "feel more energized". Also, you're more likely to lose mental focus and discipline from fatigue (well, fried zucchini IS a vegetable after all). Aim for 7 hours nightly - and power nap on days you can't. If you're routinely getting less than 6 hours of sleep a night, it's time to evaluate your life balance.

3. Learn to eat for hunger, not the clock.
- This is a tough one, and forces us to get back in touch with our biology. Figure out if you're a 3 times a day eater, or feel more comfortable dividing those 3 meals into mini-meals of 6 times a day. Avoid meal skipping, which makes you over-hungry for the next meal. Pace yourself, and avoid eating to the point of being "stuffed". Aim for contentment, knowing that you could eat more.....but will choose to do it later.

4. De-stress before you eat.
- Most of us don't have time for stress-reducing classes - even more to pack into one day! Try to relax before eating, to avoid gobbling down everything in site when you do eat - the dreaded mindless eating. If you take a minute or two before eating - you can gain control and mental focus before the meal - and whether it's a few deep breaths, or a short walk, or a phone chat - you've made a transition to your meal. That can only help your mealtime control.

5. Limit processed foods.
- Convenience foods may be easy, but are often loaded with hidden fat (and calories!), and loads of salt. While extra salt can give you temporary weight change on the scale - both "gain" (more salt) or "loss" (less salt), looking at the salt content of packaged products is a hint to the high calorie ingredient to which high salt is often linked - fat. Choose less processed foods - and limit both calories, salt, and fat. Convenience can be found in some calorie controlled products. Read the labels to be an informed consumer.

What is AIDS?

AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome:

* Acquired means you can get infected with it;
* Immune Deficiency means a weakness in the body's system that fights diseases.
* Syndrome means a group of health problems that make up a disease.

AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. If you get infected with HIV, your body will try to fight the infection. It will make "antibodies," special molecules to fight HIV.

A blood test for HIV looks for these antibodies. If you have them in your blood, it means that you have HIV infection. People who have the HIV antibodies are called "HIV-Positive." Fact Sheet 102 has more information on HIV testing.

Being HIV-positive, or having HIV disease, is not the same as having AIDS. Many people are HIV-positive but don't get sick for many years. As HIV disease continues, it slowly wears down the immune system. Viruses, parasites, fungi and bacteria that usually don't cause any problems can make you very sick if your immune system is damaged. These are called "opportunistic infections." See Fact Sheet 500 for an overview of opportunistic infections.

STRESS AND ANXIETY...

Stress is a normal part of life. In small quantities, stress is good -- it can motivate you and help you be more productive. However, too much stress, or a strong response to stress, is harmful. It can set you up for general poor health as well as specific physical or psychological illnesses like infection, heart disease, or depression. Persistent and unrelenting stress often leads to anxiety and unhealthy behaviors like overeating and abuse of alcohol or drugs.

Emotional states like grief or depression and health conditions like an overactive thyroid, low blood sugar, or heart attack can also cause stress.

Anxiety is often accompanied by physical symptoms, including:

* Twitching or trembling
* Muscle tension, headaches
* Sweating
* Dry mouth, difficulty swallowing
* Abdominal pain (may be the only symptom of stress, especially in a child)

Sometimes other symptoms accompany anxiety:

* Dizziness
* Rapid or irregular heart rate
* Rapid breathing
* Diarrhea or frequent need to urinate
* Fatigue
* Irritability, including loss of your temper
* Sleeping difficulties and nightmares
* Decreased concentration
* Sexual problems

Anxiety disorders are a group of psychiatric conditions that involve excessive anxiety. They include generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and social phobia.

Proton (carmaker)

Proton is the Malaysian national carmaker (Malay acronym for PeRusahaan OTOmobil Nasional, 'National Automobile Enterprise'), which was established in 1983 under the direction of the former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad. Proton Holdings Berhad was been listed in Bursa Saham Malaysia.

Based on technology and parts from Mitsubishi Motors, production of the first model, the Proton Saga began in September 1985 at its first manufacturing plant in Shah Alam, Selangor. Initially the components of the car were entirely manufactured by Mitsubishi but slowly local parts were being used as technologies were transferred and skills were gained. The 100,000th Proton Saga was produced in January 1989.

Until the end of the 1990s, the car's logo featured the crest from Malaysia's coat of arms, featuring a crescent and a fourteen-pointed star. The new Proton logo features a stylized tiger head. In 1993, a model called Proton Wira was introduced based on the Mitsubishi Lancer/Colt. More than 220,000 units were sold between 1996 and 1998. Proton Perdana, based on the Mitsubishi Galant/Eterna, was first produced in 1995, intended for higher end market.

By 2002 Proton held a market share of over 60% in Malaysia, which was reduced to barely 30% by 2005 and is expected to reduce further in 2008 when AFTA mandates reduce import tariffs to a maximum of 5%.

Proton Waja (Proton Impian in UK) is the first car model designed internally by Proton. It was launched in early 2001

With the acquisition of Lotus technologies in 1996 from ACBN Holdings (a company owned by the same person who owned Bugatti), Proton has gained an additional source of engineering and automotive expertise. This led to the production of Proton Gen-2 which was code name Wira Replacement Model (WRM) before the launch. The Gen-2 is the first of cars to be manufactured and assembled at the new manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak which is part of Proton City development project. The plant was opened in 2004. On June 8, 2005 Proton introduced the second model to be manufactured in Tanjung Malim, the 1,200cc 5-door supermini, the Proton Savvy. Both the Gen-2 and Savvy, were models that MG Rover was looking to rebadge when the British firm entered into collaboration talks with Proton. However these joint-venture talks were unsuccessful and MG Rover subsequently collapsed.

In 2007, Proton launch its new sedan as replacement version for Gen-2 Sedan but with new name, Persona. The new Proton Saga replacement model (codename Proton BLM) was launched on 18th January 2008. The new Saga is based on the Savvy platform, but using Campro 1.3L instead of Renault engine.

i would like to share an article i read about credit card usage among college students. this article wrote that many college students now have financial problems and apply for credit cards as the solution. research showed that 70% of all undergraduates have at least one credit card. in my opinion, this credit card issue will not help them with their financial crisis, but will cause more problems when they wanted to pay for it later. my advise is, do not take a short step and we must overcome this problem cleverly.

SOCIAL PHOBIA...

Social phobia is a persistent and irrational fear of situations that may involve scrutiny or judgment by others, such as parties and other social events.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors :-

Social phobias are characterized by fear and avoidance of situations in which a person may be subject to the scrutiny of others. It may begin in adolescence and may be associated with overprotective parents or limited social opportunity. Males and females are affected equally with this disorder.

People with social phobia are at high risk for alcohol or other drug dependence, because they may come to rely on drink or drugs to relax in social situations.
Symptoms

Social phobia is different from shyness. Shy people are able to participate in social functions, but people with social phobia are constrained by their condition to the point that it affects their ability to function in work and relationships.

Some of the most common fears of people with social phobia include :-

* Speaking in public
* Meeting new people
* Eating, drinking, and writing in public
* Using public restrooms
* Attending parties and other social occasions

Signs and tests :-

* Rapid heart rate
* Elevated blood pressure
* History of phobia
* Description of behavior from family, friends, and affected person

Treatment :-

The goal of treatment is to help the person function effectively. The success of the treatment usually depends on the severity of the phobia.

Systematic desensitization is a technique used to treat phobias. The person is asked to relax, then imagine the components of the phobia, working from the least fearful to the most fearful. Graded real-life exposure has also been used with success to help people overcome their fears.

Social skills training may involve social contact in a group therapy situation to practice social skills. Role playing and modeling are techniques used to help the person gain comfort in relating to others in a social situation.

Anti-anxiety and anti-depressive medications are sometimes used to help relieve the symptoms associated with phobias.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE...

Every encounter you have with a health care professional likely involves getting your blood pressure checked. Why is blood pressure measurement such an important indicator of health? What does it mean if your blood pressure is high? High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is the force applied against the wall of the arteries as the heart pumps. High blood pressure is a silent disease, one that may not have any symptoms for months or even years.

Blood pressure measurements are checked with a syphgmomanometer and a stethoscope. An inflatable cuff is placed around the arm and a stethoscope placed over the arteries in the crook of the elbow. As the cuff is deflated, a sound is heard as the blood courses through the artery. The first sound heard is measured and that is the systolic blood pressure. Normal systolic blood pressure is less than 120 (mm Hg). When the sound stops, the measurement is the diastolic blood pressure. Normal diastolic blood pressure is less than 80 (mm Hg).

Complications of high blood pressure are no joke. What happens is that the walls of the arteries lose their elasticity over time and the heart has to work harder to push the blood through them. Every organ and body system is therefore affected by high blood pressure. That is why treatment is so important. People sometimes want to stop taking their medications when they feel better. That is a dangerous practice with high blood pressure and can lead to life threatening problems such as heart attack or stroke.

SLEEP DISORDER...

Sleep disorders involve any difficulties related to sleeping, including difficulty falling or staying asleep, falling asleep at inappropriate times, excessive total sleep time, or abnormal behaviors associated with sleep.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors

More than 100 different disorders of sleeping and waking have been identified. They can be grouped in four main categories:

* Problems with falling and staying asleep
* Problems with staying awake
* Problems with adhering to a regular sleep schedule
* Sleep-disruptive behaviors

PROBLEMS WITH FALLING AND STAYING ASLEEP

Insomnia includes any combination of difficulty with falling asleep, staying asleep, intermittent wakefulness and early-morning awakening. Episodes may be transient (come and go), short-term (lasting as long as 2 to 3 weeks), or chronic (long-lasting).

Common factors associated with insomnia include:

* Physical illness
* Depression
* Anxiety or stress
* Poor sleeping environment such as excessive noise or light
* Caffeine
* Alcohol or other drugs
* Use of certain medications
* Heavy smoking
* Physical discomfort
* Daytime napping
* Counterproductive sleep habits:
o Early bedtimes
o Excessive time spent awake in bed

Disorders include:

* Psychophysiological insomnia (learned insomnia)
* Delayed sleep phase syndrome -- where a patient's internal clock is constantly out of synch with the "accepted" day / night phases; for example, patients feel best if they can sleep from 4AM to noon
* Hypnotic-dependent sleep disorder -- insomnia resulting from building tolerance to, or stopping, certain types of sleep medications
* Stimulant-dependent sleep disorder -- insomnia resulting depending on, or stopping, certain types of stimulants
PROBLEMS WITH ADHERING TO A REGULAR SLEEP SCHEDULE

Problems may also occur when maintaining a consistent sleep and wake schedule is disrupted. This occurs when traveling between times zones and with shift workers on rotating schedules, particularly nighttime workers.

Sleep disruption disorders include:

* Sleep state misperception (the person actually sleeps a different amount than they think they do)
* Shift work sleep disorder
* Natural short sleeper (the person sleeps less hours than normal but suffers no ill effects)
* Chronic time-zone-change syndrome
* Irregular sleep-wake syndrome

SLEEP-DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIORS

Abnormal behaviors during sleep are called parasomnias and are fairly common in children. They include:

* Sleep terror disorder
* Sleep walking
* REM sleep behavior disorder (a type of psychosis related to lack of REM sleep and lack of dreaming)

Sleep terror disorder is an abrupt awakening from sleep with fear, sweating, rapid heart rate, and confusion. Sleepwalking is usually not remembered by the person doing it, and usually affects children 2 to 12 years old.

In adults, sleepwalking may also be caused by an organic brain syndrome, reactions to drugs, psychological disorders, and certain medical conditions.
Symptoms

* Awakening in the night
* Difficulty falling asleep
* Excessive daytime drowsiness
* Loud snoring
* Episodes of stopped breathing
* Sleep attacks during the day
* Daytime fatigue
* Depressed mood
* Anxiety
* Difficulty concentrating
* Apathy
* Irritability
* Loss of memory (or complaints of decreased memory)
* Lower leg movements during sleep

The symptoms may vary with the particular disorder.

BEIJING OLYMPIC: Lee Chong Wei BIDS FOR MALAYSIA'S FIRST GOLD MEDAL

By Telegraph staff and agencies
Last Updated: 12:37PM BST 05 Aug 2008

Lee, who is badminton's world two, has admitted in the run up to the Games that he is feeling the pressure of taking on the Chinese juggernaut in Beijing but insists he will try to relax once the tournament gets under way.

"I'll try my best to win every match step by step. I haven't wished for a lot as I don't want to give myself too much pressure," he said.

Malaysia has only ever won three Olympic medals, one silver and two bronze, all of them in badminton. But despite being a badminton powerhouse, the Southeast Asian nation has never captured gold.

Lee has hit top form heading into the Games, winning the Malaysian and Singapore Opens this year and downing China's star and world No 1 Lin Dan at the recent Thomas Cup.

But Lee, who was knocked out in the last 16 at Athens four years ago, played down his chances of defeating Lin and China's equally fearsome Bao Chunlai and All England champion Chen Jin.

"I think the Chinese athletes have more advantages because they are playing in China," the second seed said. "But I like the venue, there is no wind and the lighting is comfortable."

On that article, i want to conclude that we need to do something to raise our country,Malaysia whether in sports or in academic.

HURRICANE KATRINA

The effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans were shattering and long-lasting. As the center of Katrina passed east of New Orleans on August 29, 2005, winds downtown were in the Category 3 range with frequent intense gusts and tidal surge. Though the most severe portion of Katrina missed the city, hitting nearby St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes, the storm surge caused more than 50 breaches in drainage canal levees and also in navigational canal levees and precipitated the worst engineering disaster in the history of the United States.

By August 31, 2005, eighty percent of New Orleans was flooded, with some parts under 15 feet (4.5 m) of water. Most of the city's levees designed and built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers broke somewhere, including the 17th Street Canal levee, the Industrial Canal levee, and the London Avenue Canal floodwall. These breaches were responsible for most of the flooding, according to a June 2007 report by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Ninety percent of the residents of southeast Louisiana were evacuated in the most successful evacuation of a major urban area in the nation's history. Despite this, many remained (mainly the elderly and poor). The Louisiana Superdome was used as a designated "refuge of last resort" for those who remained in the city. The city flooded due primarily to the failure of the federally built levee system. Many who remained in their homes had to swim for their lives, wade through deep water, or remain trapped in their attics or on their rooftops.

The disaster had major implications for a large segment of the population, economy, and politics of the entire United States. It has prompted a Congressional review of the Army Corps of Engineers and the near total failure of the federally built flood protection system which experts agree should have protected the city's inhabitants from Katrina's surge. Katrina has also stimulated significant research in the academic community into urban planning, real estate finance, and economic issues in the wake of a natural disaster.

so,we have to be proud and thankful because Malaysia is place of peace country. Don't comment anything about our country.

Fasting In Syawal;
It is the month of Syawal:a month of joy and a month of freedom. We should also not consider Ramadhan as the only month for us to perform ibadah.
If in Ramadhan we had controlled our tongues from talking or conversing inappropriately, we should continue to do so for the rest of our lives. If in Ramadhan we had controlled our eyes from looking at things most despicable, it does not mean that after Ramadhan, we could return to our old ways.
Perhaps there are among us who feel that there were many shortcomings done in the last Ramadhan. Perhaps the ibadah were not performed perfectly and perhaps missed the opportunity to get the benefits of the 1000 months.
Verily Allah, The Almighty offers us the opportunity to His servants. It is up to us to seize the opportunity.
In this month, there are many acts which can be performed to complement and continue from our acts in the past month.
The complementary ibadah referred to is the six days fast in the month of Syawal - whether it is performed continuously or alternately in Syawal. The fast of 6 days in Syawal has many benefits. Amongst them, as reported in a hadith which means: He who fasts in the month of Ramadhan followed by 6 days in Syawal, it is as if he has fasted for 1 year.
It means that if you complete the fast of 1 month of Ramadhan and continue with 6 days of fasting in Syawal, you will be rewarded with the rewards of someone who has fast for 1 full year.
If we analyse that hadith, we can conclude that it corresponds to Allah’s commands in Surah Al An’am verse 160 which means: "He that does good will have ten times as much to his credit. He that does evil shall only be recompensed according to His evil. No wrong shall be done unto any of them."
This is the benefit Allah has offered to us for us to reap. For those who may have missed the benefits from the previous months, this is an opportunity which you should not miss. The 6 days of fasting in Syawal is like a Rawatib prayer that completes any incomplete prayer. And surely in the course of our fasting in Ramadhan there must have been numerous mistakes that we have made. By fasting 6 days in Syawal, it creates an opportunity for us to atone for those mistakes in our fasting.
Let us increase our ibadah in this significant month in Islam. And may our good deeds be rewarded and accepted by Allah, The Almighty.
Good luck! =)

SILAT SENI GAYONG
Silat Gayong, or correctly referred to as Silat Seni Gayong, is a Malay art of self-defense; a fighting art, the art of stopping wars. The art is not merely about self-defense, it is also for the development of the self (belajar mengenal diri); becoming a better person so that you may serve humanity. It is a great way to develop and increase physical fitness, flexibility, mental conditioning, discipline and self-confidence. The philosophy of Gayong is strongly related to the Malay Adat Istiadat (Malay cultures and traditions), morals, adab (respect) and the teaching of religion. Religion is the inspiration, motivation and guidance for high quality behavior. It is a mark of peace and harmony.
Gayong is widely practiced in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Due to different opinions and styles of managing a very large organization, Gayong carries many different names; Gayong Malaysia, Gayong Pusaka, Gayong Warisan and Gayong PASAK. Regardless of whatever names Gayong may carry, they all agreed on one thing...... that the Grand Master of Gayong will always be Dato Meor Abdul Rahman . Now, Gayong is slowly spreading into Europe and the Western world.
to the student of ump especially for section E01,let join me to learn silat.

Preparing for the exam day;
1)Double-check the time and location of your exam
This is extremely important you must be certain of the time and location of your exam before you take the exam. It is not uncommon for students to misread the date, time or location of the exam and take this to be the actual date, time or location. When they turn up they find that they have either missed the exam or they are in the wrong location.
2)Get equipped
A day before the exam you should decide on all the equipment that you will need for the exam and locate them. Generally you should take two of each item of equipment and check that they work correctly before you decide that they are fit for use. You should use either an elastic band or a clear plastic bag to keep your equipment together.
3)Get a reasonable amount of sleep
The day before the exam you must make sure that you go to sleep early. If there is a film or program that you are tempted to watch, resist the temptation. You can always record it and view it another time. Set your alarm a good half an hour earlier than usual, in this way you can leave earlier.
4)Eat properly
You must eat a proper breakfast. You may think that not eating breakfast does not affect you but it will leave you with a lack of energy if you do not. Should you get hungry before the exam resist the temptation to snack on foods like chocolate bars or fizzy drinks in view of the fact that they give you a sudden surge of energy that will run out as quickly as it came. Instead you need to snack on food like a bananas which give you a slower release of energy as and when you need it.
5)Travel carefully
Check the availability of the tube or busses if you need them. It is not uncommon for a bus or tube strike to be taking place on the day of your exam. If possible plan an alternate route or means of travel in the event that something unexpected happens.
5)Last minute revision
Don't overload on the last minute Revision, in theory you should only need a small amount of time to quickly check that you are ready for the exam. You should not however, be learning whole new topics so close to the exam. To do this indicates your lack of preparation for the exam.
6)During the exam
During the exam, be calm and listen carefully to the invigilator. Follow any instructions that he/she gives you. Make sure you manage your time well, so that you won't run out of time ensuring that you have time to check your answers, and proof read what you have written.

Tennis as the modern sport can be dated to two separate roots. Between 1859 and 1865, Major Harry Gem and his friend Augurio Perera developed a game that combined elements of rackets similar to the game of Poona or Badminton many British soldiers brought from being stationed in India and the Basque ball game pelota, which they played on Perera's croquet lawn in Birmingham, United Kingdom.[2][3] In 1872, along with two local doctors, they founded the world's first tennis club in Leamington Spa.[4] The Courier of 23 July 1884 recorded one of the first tennis tournaments, held in the grounds of Shrubland Hall.[5]

In December 1873, Major Walter Clopton Wingfield designed a similar game — which he called sphairistike (Greek: σφάίρίστική, meaning "skill at playing at ball"), and was soon known simply as "sticky" — for the amusement of his guests at a garden party on his estate of Nantclwyd, in Llanelidan, Wales.[6] He based the game on the newer sport of outdoor tennis or real tennis. According to most tennis historians, modern tennis terminology also derives from this period

The first championships at Wimbledon in London were played in 1877.[7] On 21 May 1881, the United States National Lawn Tennis Association (now the United States Tennis Association) was formed to standardize the rules and organize competitions.[8] The U.S. National Men's Singles Championship, now the US Open, was first held in 1881 at Newport, Rhode Island.[9] The U.S. National Women's Singles Championships were first held in 1887.[10] Tennis was also popular in France, where the French Open dates to 1891.[11] Thus, Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open (dating to 1905) became and have remained the most prestigious events in tennis.[7][12] Together these four events are called the Grand Slam (a term borrowed from bridge).[13]

The comprehensive International Lawn Tennis Federation, now known as the International Tennis Federation, rules promulgated in 1924 have remained remarkably stable in the ensuing eighty years, the one major change being the addition of the tiebreaker system designed by James Van Alen.[14]

The Davis Cup, an annual competition between national teams, dates to 1900.[15]

In 1926, promoter C.C. Pyle established the first professional tennis tour with a group of American and French tennis players playing exhibition matches to paying audiences.[12][16] The most notable of these early professionals were the American Vinnie Richards and the Frenchwoman Suzanne Lenglen.[12][17] Once a player turned pro he or she could not compete in the major (amateur) tournaments.[12]

In 1968, commercial pressures and rumors of some amateurs taking money under the table led to the abandonment of this distinction, inaugurating the open era, in which all players could compete in all tournaments, and top players were able to make their living from tennis.[18] With the beginning of the open era, the establishment of an international professional tennis circuit, and revenues from the sale of television rights, tennis's popularity has spread worldwide, and the sport has shed its upper/middle-class English-speaking image[19] (although it is acknowledged that this stereotype still exists).[19][20][21]

In 1954, Van Alen founded the International Tennis Hall of Fame, a non-profit museum in Newport, Rhode Island.[22] The building contains a large collection of tennis memorabilia as well as a hall of fame honoring prominent members and tennis players from all over the world. Each year, a grass-court tournament and an induction ceremony honoring new Hall of Fame members are hosted on its grounds.

INCOME GAP GROWING WIDER

Since 1995 until now, inequality rates in Canada have been increased and now higher than the average developed nation.

The 20-year analysis by the 30-member Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development found only Germany saw a similar rate of increase during the past 10 years.

Report said that "After 20 years of continuous decline, both inequality and poverty rates (in Canada) have increased rapidly in the past 10 years, now reaching levels above the OECD average,"

As in other countries, more single-parent households and people living alone are contributing to income inequality in Canada.

And wages for the rich are increasing, while they have been stagnating or dropping for middle and lower income workers.

Most affected have been young adults and families with children.

Canada spends less on cash transfers, such as unemployment and family benefits, than other OECD countries and that may be one of the reasons the country fares worse than others, the report suggests.

Echoes concerns raised by Canadian social research groups about growing income disparity in Canada at a time of strong economic growth.

"It's a consistent repudiation of the trickle-down theory," said Armine Yalnizyan, an economist with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, which has written several reports on the issue.

"Even in a period of dramatic growth in the job market – and Canada has been a leader in job growth in the G-7 in the last 10 years – trickle down has not happened,"

Underscores the need for federal action, she said, adding every political party except the recently elected federal Conservatives had plans to cut poverty in their campaign platforms.

With U.S. Democratic leader Barack Obama ahead in the polls and promising to cut poverty in half in that country within 10 years, Canada may soon be one of the only developed countries without a detailed plan to address the problem.

In an email, she listed "vital social programs" the government is strengthening: the Working Income Tax Benefit; the recent extension of affordable housing and homelessness programs; the new retired disability savings program; $100 monthly child care benefits; and supports for seniors, skills training and post-secondary education.

When asked if the government plans to introduce a strategy with goals and timetables she said: "I think what I sent you stands."

Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court that is divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents' half of the court. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has struck the ground, and the shuttlecock may only be struck once by each side before it passes over the net.

The shuttlecock (or shuttle) is a feathered projectile whose unique aerodynamic properties cause it to fly differently from the balls used in most racquet sports; in particular, the feathers create much higher drag, causing the shuttlecock to decelerate more rapidly than a ball. Shuttlecocks have a much higher top speed, when compared to other racquet sports. Because shuttlecock flight is stubbornly affected by wind, competitive badminton is always played indoors. Badminton is also played outdoors as a casual recreational activity, often as a garden or beach game.

Since 1992, badminton has been an Olympic sport with five events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each pair is a man and a woman. At high levels of play, the sport demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, agility, strength, speed, and precision. It is also a technical sport, requiring good motor coordination and the development of sophisticated racquet movements.

Pilots Blind By Laser

Incidents of pilots being blinded by lasers while attempting to land in the GTA are on the rise.

Transport Canada had got five complaints since 2005 from pilots attempting to land at Toronto area airports about someone shining a laser at their plane and trying to target their eyes from the ground.

Since then, 15 pilots have filed local complaints about laser pointers aimed at incoming or outgoing aircraft. The most recent reports were from Oct. 10 and 13, by pilots flying into Toronto Island and Pearson International airports respectively.

"We can no longer say that it's rare," said Robert Palmer, spokesperson for WestJet Airlines.

In total, Transport Canada has received 73 reports of lasers aimed into cockpits across the country, including 46 so far in 2008.

The aviation industry is labelling these incidents "security concerns," a category reserved for bomb threats, sabotage and hijackings in Transport Canada's civilian aviation reporting system.

The types of high-powered lasers able to reach a cockpit from several kilometres away can be found in most boardrooms.

Earlier this month, a WestJet first officer was hit in the eyes during takeoff from Calgary when someone shone a green light into the cockpit of the 130-seat aircraft.

Upon landing in Kelowna, he was taken to hospital and released without injury.

WestJet's Palmer said "I wonder if the people doing this truly appreciate how dangerous it is."

"I think in their minds it's a prank, (but) it's far more serious."

While the level of industry concern may be high, police tend to find the practice a random one that they're at pains to prevent.

Pilots have reported a green laser coming from near Canada's Wonderland and white lasers from the area of Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave. A Porter Airline pilot reported a green laser aimed from two kilometres north of Bluffers Park.

No laser-related arrests have been made in the GTA.

Under the Aeronautic Act, someone caught attempting to blind a pilot with a laser risks a $100,000 fine and five years in prison.

Only one conviction has occurred in Canada. A Calgary man, David Mackow, was caught beaming a green laser from his downtown apartment at an Air Canada Jazz flight a year ago. The pilot alerted police, who dispatched a helicopter.

When Mackow aimed the laser at the helicopter, police isolated his position and arrested him. He told police he was "just having some fun." He was fined $1,000.

Air Canada pilot Stephen Guetta says the threat to a cockpit is probably greatest when the plane is about 10 seconds from landing.

Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century, and its projected continuation.

The average global air temperature near the Earth's surface increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 100 years ending in 2005. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-twentieth century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations" via an enhanced greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.

These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. While individual scientists have voiced disagreement with some findings of the IPCC, the overwhelming majority of scientists working on climate change agree with the IPCC's main conclusions.

Climate model projections summarized by the IPCC indicate that average global surface temperature will likely rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the twenty-first century. This range of values results from the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions as well as models with differing climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a thousand years even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. The delay in reaching equilibrium is a result of the large heat capacity of the oceans.

Increasing global temperature is expected to cause sea levels to rise, an increase in the intensity of extreme weather events, and significant changes to the amount and pattern of precipitation, likely leading to an expanse of tropical areas and increased pace of desertification. Other expected effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, modifications of trade routes, glacier retreat, mass species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.

Remaining scientific uncertainties include the amount of warming expected in the future, and how warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but there is ongoing political and public debate worldwide regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences.

ARRANGED MARRIAGE

Arranged marriage (also called prearranged marriage) is a marriage arranged by someone other than the persons getting married, curtailing or avoiding the process of courtship. Such marriages are common in the Middle East,[citation needed] and South Asia.[citation needed] Other groups that practice this custom include the Unification Movement, and royal families.

The match could be selected by parents, a matchmaking agent, matrimonial site, or a trusted third party. In many communities, priests or religious leaders as well as relatives or family friends play a major role in matchmaking.

The pattern of arranged marriage can be employed for other reasons besides the formation of a promising new family unit. In such marriages, typically economic or legal reasons take precedence over the goal of selecting a well-matched couple. Though critics are not always specific, criticism of arranged marriage usually targets abuses such as forced marriage and child marriage.

*In a "forced marriage" the parents choose their son's or daughter's future spouse with no input from their son or daughter. This form of arranged marriage is rare in the modern Western world, but not quite as rare in some other parts of the world. Occasionally, even if the son or daughter disapproves of the choice, the marriage takes place regardless, overriding their objections. In some societies, in order to ensure cooperation the parents may threaten the child with punishment, or in rare cases, disinheritance and death. Motivating factors for such a marriage tend to be social or economic. For example the interests of the family or community goals served by the marriage are seen as paramount, and the preference of the individual is considered insignificant.

*In a "child marriage" children, or even infants, are married. The married children often live apart with their respective families until well after puberty. Child marriages are typically made for economic or political reasons. In rural India and several other countries, the requirement of providing a dowry for daughters is generally acknowledged to be a contributing factor to female infanticide.

*In a "shotgun wedding" the groom is forced to marry the bride due to unplanned pregnancy (or other reasons). It is given this colloquial name from the traditional method of force used: holding a shotgun to the groom's head until he is married. This can also be classified as a forced marriage. Although it is worth noting that the concept came about before the invention of the shotgun. Laws of Old Testament Israel said that if an unmarried couple engages in extramarital sex the female can force the man to marry her or pay a fine. A reason is never given in the text, but it is likely predicated on the text's specification that the woman was a virgin; no longer being a virgin, it would be difficult for her to find a marriage, and so her sexual partner must marry her to provide for her well-being. Alternatively, it could be based on family honor, as it was shameful for her to have had relations without being married, and it would be all the more shameful if she had a child out of wedlock.

Coercion to marry is commonly considered a violation of fundamental human rights in most Western societies, primarily because of its usurpation of a choice that, in most Western thought, belongs solely to the individuals involved. People can "find themselves stuck in marriages with persons decidedly not of their own choosing whom they may find personally repulsive."

A further condemnation of the practice of arranging marriage for economic reasons comes from Edlund and Lagerlöf (2004) who argued that a love marriage is more effective for the promotion of accumulation of wealth and societal growth.

Former Thai premier found guilty of corruption
By SUTIN WANNABOVORN – 49 minutes ago
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) — A Thai court found former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra guilty of corruption Tuesday and sentenced him to two years in prison, deepening the country's paralyzing political crisis.
The guilty verdict was the first against the country's former leader since he was ousted by a 2006 military coup after being accused of corruption and abuse of power.
With a conviction widely anticipated, Thaksin, 59, jumped bail and fled to England two months ago along with his wife, Pojaman, 51, who was also charged. The Supreme Court acquitted her on Tuesday.
Thai authorities have not yet begun efforts to extradite Thaksin.
The charges stemmed from allegations that Thaksin facilitated his wife's purchase of lucrative Bangkok real estate from a state agency in 2003, while he was prime minister.
"The defendant was the prime minister at the time. He should have been honest and ethical and should not have violated counter-corruption laws," Thongloh Chomngam, head of the court's nine-judge panel, said in reading from the lengthy verdict.
The Supreme Court's ruling made Thaksin the first politician convicted of corruption committed while prime minister, but it did little to resolve the country's political standoff.
Thaksin remains the most influential politician in the country, adored by the rural poor and loathed by many of the urban elite. His brother-in-law, Somchai Wongsawat, the current prime minister, has been labeled a Thaksin puppet by anti-government protesters demanding his ouster.
Anti-government protesters have been camped at the prime minister's office compound in Bangkok for nearly two months, demanding all vestiges of Thaksin's legacy be abolished.
Somchai's government has been virtually paralyzed by the protests.
The court case Tuesday stemmed from Pojaman Shinawatra's $23 million purchase of a 13.2-acre plot of land in central Bangkok, from the Financial Institutions Development Fund, a government agency set up to bail out debt-ridden banks.
It was estimated to be worth three times what she paid.
Thaksin, who served as prime minister from 2001-2006, is accused of violating several laws, including one that bars prime ministers or their spouses from doing business with government agencies.
The 59-year-old former tycoon-turned-politician faces a string of court cases and investigations into alleged corruption and abuse of power during his six years in office.
Thaksin has repeatedly proclaimed his innocence and says the charges are politically motivated.
The court also ordered Tuesday a fresh arrest warrant for Thaksin, who already has several warrants out for him in connection with other corruption cases

KUALA LUMPUR: MALAYSIA plans to loosen investment rules to lure foreign funds and will review guidelines to ease rules on foreigners buying property, Finance Minister Najib Razak said yesterday. The government will also inject RM5 billion (S$2 billion) to double the size of a local fund that invests in undervalued companies to reduce the impact of a global slowdown.
'We have to make Malaysia more competitive,' Datuk Seri Najib said, adding that it is inevitable that the country's real economy would feel the impact of the financial turmoil.

Economic growth forecast for next year will have to be cut from the current estimate of 5.4 per cent.'Malaysia is not in a crisis and we will not go into a recession,'

He added: 'Yes, our stock market is affected by the sentiments in other markets but I would like to stress that we are not in a financial crisis, and certainly we should not talk ourselves into one.'

Mr Najib said the government may also review its budget deficit targets for this year and next, and postpone some infrastructure projects.Details will be revealed on Nov 4 in Parliament.

Mr Najib said some investments and property purchases may no longer require the approval of the Foreign Investment Committee (FIC).

The government last liberalised the property market in April last year with measures including a blanket exemption on real property gains tax, the removal of FIC approvals for foreign ownership of houses costing RM250,000 and above, and unlimited loans for non-residents.

The measures paid off, with developers reporting higher sales, more than half of which went to foreigners, and prices in popular areas up too, said property consultant Ho Chin Soon.

Not many analysts were impressed with the measures announced, and some said the government needed to present more concrete economic policies.

Bank Islam senior economist Azrul Azwar said the measures would not provide the immediate results needed.

'The results of the liberalisation will be seen only in two to three years. The measures do not really respond to the needs of the hour,' he said.

Oil prices were hovering above US$74 a barrel Tuesday as investors expected OPEC to try to halt a three-month slide in prices by cutting production quotas at least 1 million barrels a day.

At the same time, gains by the U.S. dollar against the euro were putting the brakes on any gains in oil prices.

"The general trend is still of uncertainty," said analyst Olivier Jakob of Petromatrix in Switzerland.

By midday in Europe, light, sweet crude for November delivery was down 26 cents to US$74.13 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier in the session, it rose as high as US$75.69. The contract gained overnight US$2.40 to settle at US$74.25.

Prices closed as low as US$69.85 a barrel last week, down 53 percent from a record US$147.27 on July 11. In London, November Brent crude was down 62 cents to US$71.41 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, which accounts for about 40 percent of global oil supply, plans to announce an output reduction at a meeting on Oct. 24 at its headquarters in Vienna, said the group's president, Chakib Khelil.

Deutsche Bank on Monday cut its 2009 oil price forecast to US$60 a barrel from US$92 and predicted US$57.50 for 2010.

"Producers are getting concerned about this downward spiral in pricing since the summer," Shum said. "Some governments have based their budgets higher than current prices.'' Rising global stock markets have also supported prices this week.

Stock indexes across Asia rose Tuesday, with Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average up 3.3 percent. The Dow Jones industrials average rose 4.7 percent Monday.

"Lately oil has traded in sync with equities as traders look to equity markets for indications of the macro-economic outlook,'' Shum said.

By midday in Europe, the euro was down to US$1.3240 from US$1.3323 in the previous session, while the British pound bought US$1.7069 compared with US$1.7121 late Monday in New York.

In other Nymex trading, heating oil futures rose 1.01 cents to US$2.22 a gallon, while gasoline prices lost 0.46 cent to US$1.7155 a gallon. Natural gas for November delivery gained 2.4 cents to US$6.765 per 1,000 cubic feet.
